Thoughts? Prayers?

Personally... I don't think movie looks very good. I mean like visually I enjoy the artstyle but I had no idea how anyone could make a Minecraft movie interesting... and it seems Warner Bros. doesn't either.

I'm still gonna go watch it though, it's the freakin' Minecraft movie. And hey, the FNAF movie turned out good, so why not give it a shot?

i don't like it

this will be graphics in 2025
there's a lot of ways you can go around a minecraft movie and regardless of what you do there's always at least ONE way you'll fuck it up. with that said i am amazed at how much they somehow managed to fuck it up
looks like a fun watch with friends

the animals look hideous...
such a shame they made it an isekai
unfortunately i bet my little brother will probably want to go see it

it's sad how media nowadays is leaning towards censoring and brainrotting kids for a quickbuck instead of something that's actually full of love
it's not way off the deep end yet, thankfully, but... mother of mercy

It's pretty eesh for me. I think it had the potential to be good? But it was immediately squandered with corporate meddling in order to appeal to the widest common denominator. If the writing is good it *might* save it, but given the fact it looks like a sequel to Pixels with the camera lens on the wrong way, I highly doubt it.

I am actually kind of interested in this Discourse because while I agree that it can be "for kids" and also actually good, I think we forget sometimes that kids have different ideas of what's good than adults do. If you've ever gone back and rewatched your favorite childhood shows, you might notice some have clearly aged better than others. I think anyone who has somehow never seen Spongebob Squarepants can enjoy the first 3 seasons of that show even if they're a grown adult, but on the other hand, watching it now, I realize why my parents always hated Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy whenever I would watch it. Didn't make me love it any less at the time

Anyway, I don't think there's a cinematic masterpiece to be found in Minecraft in the first place, so I say let the kids have their hideous cross eyed screaming goat sheep. Us grownups will just have to settle for complaining about it on the computer in between sipping our bean water and filing our taxes

Fun way of thinking personally
Yeah it's not like we can make a dent on microsoft the same way it happened with sega and the sonic movie

Based on the complaints it seems like the issues here run a little deeper than a bad character model

I mean I guess the question is what exactly do you want out of a Minecraft movie? The answer was pretty clear with what Sonic could have been but what are we missing out on with this

The premise of the movie just seems to take things from the game, put them in the overworld as a conflict for the characters and...
see, like, personally, here's this thing that has always bothered me about MC

It's a sandbox, yes, but all of its structures, mobs, the nether and the end hint at some sort of STORY going on in some sort of way
it's so loose! it's never elaborated upon! they just keep adding things that could have lore and never elaborate on that!!!
you could make a movie about what all of that is about! not some movie that takes mobs that can't even be in the overworld (they zombify.) and puts them against a clueless group of people that one doesn't even have clear how they got to this world in the first place.

i don't know much about the aesthetic or direction
all I know is that I've never disliked something with Matt Berry in it
so I'm kinda looking forward to him at the very least

what does he voice? Is he the creeper? Or maybe a villager?
I kinda hope he's a villager.

"the minecraft movie" and "the lego movie" seem like similar concepts to me
they're systems/frameworks that have certain experiences and sandbox play
I think the lego movie succeeded in creating a novel narrative that worked with
the setting while having good meta relationship with legos themselves

the intense negative response is reasonable especially considering the appearance
of the animals. but then I think surely others and test groups would have showed
this was somewhat disturbing. idk, I'm staying open minded about it
