I went and finally purchased something incredibly long overdue: an external SSD. Somehow I managed to find a clearance deal at Walmart for a SanDisk 2TB Extreme (this exact one on Amazon) and it's simply excellent. I moved 50GB in 2 minutes! I guess that isn't very surprising anymore, but my last external drive was a 1TB Toshiba extHDD from 2013.
Anyways! What do you use? Any recommendations, or anything you'd say to stay away from?
I don't have my own (I really want to make one) but for longer term and decent sized storage I'd recommend anyone looking for solutions to build a NAS (Network-Attached Storage). Being able to save to a local file server and get files from somewhere not on my PC would be ballin'. Every year I fill up my drives and have to get rid of stuff and I'm very much a data hoarder.
On top of that, I'd highly recommend powering it and your PC through a UPS, just in case of outages so files don't get corrupted, or stuff done doesn't gets lost. It's not super cheap (especially a NAS with a lot of storage) to do all that but finding good deals throughout a year isn't that unheard of.
