i'm looking for dreamy sort of music, something floaty and nice. my picks are 'zdenka 2080' and 'ceres and calypso in deep time'.
the first one feels like floating in space. i don't know why, but it's very nostalgic. the candy claws album makes me think of really old picture books i used to have for some reason. the types that came with an illustration every other page.

Probably my favorite album of all time. Been listening to it since middle school and it still never misses.

listened to a bit of this, gonna finish it later but WOOW this is such a.."dreamy" album in a really good way. love instrumental music and the entire album reminds me of video game menus.

on the topic of both: the album that reminds me of childhood is 2nd Collection by Nujabes/Hydeout Productions, arguably my favorite artist of all time. very solid mix of instrumental songs and vocal songs with some of the best mixing and beats nujabes had done :headbang:

i love nujabes work so much! another genre that really makes me think of childhood is late 80s early 90s hiphop for some reason. kind of the daisy age/native tongues style. but that's just because my mom played hiphop in the car while driving me to school. i miss the summer days.

i've got a ton but i don't think many of them fit the description you're really looking for. there's obvious answers for me, like a lot of the music my parents or sister would listen to when I was a kid that I'll always associate with those times even if the tone of the music itself isn't really one of nostalgia. lots of dad rock/old bands like zeppelin, black sabbath, rush, iron maiden etc from my dad. the pogues and stan rogers from my mom, and a lot of punk music from my sister.

i think the closest i've got that both fits your description and is something i found myself would be folk-y intros or interludes to a lot of atmospheric black metal albums. we would go camping pretty much every weekend, including winters, until i was about 17-18. i find that a lot of those songs really remind me of those times and can feel a lot more personal than just listening to records I heard when I was actually a child. here's a couple examples.

because i spent most of 1998-2009 in the backseat of a car i was going to post "californication, by the way, and stadium arcadium by the red hot chili peppers" as a joke, but john frusciante's solo work from that era is honestly a good shout for the wistful lo-fi vibe you seem to be chasing

i love rhcp so much! i should check out frusciante's solo soon. i used to be big into hard rock when i was young. tapered off slowly to shoegaze and adjacent genres later on :)
