hi all. it's time for our monthly check-in. we have not forgotten.
so, where do things stand currently?
well, it may or may not have been fairly evident, but we obviously haven't been making much progress on anything over the past month. busy being depressed, busy going on our vacation trip, busy being even more depressed after the fact. such is how it goes. despite this all though, there's something we just haven't been able to shake off the desire for...
hehe, yup. our funny little conlang we love so much.
linguistics was always something we've had some level of attachment to, long before there was a "we". mez loves studying languages. it only makes sense that when her autism is primed on worldbuilding, she would inevitably want to dive deep into defining ALL the parts that go into what a "world" would contain. culture, societal norms, agricultural standards... and language! the image above probably seems like a bunch of utter fucking nonsense, and yeah, that's more or less what it is. we assigned custom characters to individual phonemes we wanted present in the language, and have been using that as the foundation for what would later develop into a proper language with grammatical rules and structure.
what does any of this have to do with CHIMERA? well... first of all, fuck you, it doesn't HAVE to have anything to do with that. second, it actually does, so double fuck you. sorry, i'm not sure where that all came from.
CHIMERA isn't just a game concept to us. it's supposed to be the retelling of a full story being written from the ground up, although framed as though the events had actually transpired in our past long ago. it's meant to be a glimpse into an alternate reality, one which we feel deeply connected to as though we were born from it, albeit many many generations descended. obviously, the story isn't going to be told very authentically if we didn't do our due diligence in restoring all of its qualities and retelling them as accurately as possible. this language isn't just a fixation, it's
essential for capturing this period of time in its entirety. do we sound insane yet?
we've been doing some work over the past couple days studying linguistics through... wikipedia, as well as
zompist (thank you mark rosenfelder). lemme tell you, this shit is NOT easy. it mainly boils down to "some days the brain is just not strong enough to process the wiki page for Grammatical case", but even then, it's just a very time-consuming process. regardless, this is the most fixated we've been on anything pertaining to this project in a while, so we're honestly very happy to have SOMETHING to focus on. progress is good.
we'll continue to share updates on how this
currently unnamed language is developing as we get more stuff about it sorted out. in the meantime, we'd like to once again give our utmost gratitude to those continuing to read this despite our inherently flawed work structure. we promise to have a completed project before we die. :P
