Started reading Absolute Superman and I’m really loving it. I guess the premise of the whole Absolute line is that they’re darker reimaginings of the DC universe and every hero is in an underdog position. I almost want to read Absolute Batman but that one actually seems like it’s two steps too far for me to enjoy lol.
Ok I caught up on Absolute Superman and then read all that’s available now of Absolute Green Lantern. Really big fan of the former, way less so the latter.
wonder woman and martian manhunter are at the top atm. don't particularly care about Flash, I like green lantern and trust Al Ewing since he wrote one of my favourite krakoa era xmen runs (X-Men Red 2022) and also the second best Guardians of the Galaxy run (2021). it's easily the slowest of the runs so far but i enjoy it, though I do think it'll probably read better once it's a TPB. superman's been good and I need to catch up on batman. they're all mostly doing what something like this should: letting people read about these characters without the really excessive baggage inherent to comics. no read orders here, just start at issue 1 and go. of course knowing about them in the main universe will give you more room to appreciate how they've deviated here, but I really don't think it's necessary.
i think wonder woman especially needed this because man you've got no idea how bad Diana's been getting shafted lol. the current mainline run by Tom "Formerly of the CIA" King is infuriating, new 52 diana (and amazons generally) just weirdly mischaracterized and hard to root for. AWW might actually be perfect. stellar art, fun twist with her being raised in hell by Circe and not knowing other Amazons, and it really gets into what makes her so compassionate. there's also probably straight up more emphasis on greek mythos here than anything Amazon related in AGES. it's really, really good.
I’m gonna have to check that out in that case. Agreed that Wonder Woman is painfully mishandled, it’s been impossible for me to care about her mainline stuff. I’ve heard horror stories about Tom King’s work for years lol.
