Archiving Digital Media

As I watch everything I love be consumed by pay-walls, subscriptions, streaming apps, I find myself wanting to archive and save all my beloved media onto physical storage devices. Call me crazy but just something so satisfying about popping in a DVD to watch my favorite movies that I PAID FOR.

All this to say; I'm wondering if anyone has any good tools or sites for ripping mp4 files from streaming services?
Looking to start a digital movie collection of all the films and shows that I have purchased through YouTube, Amazon video, etc. As far as I can see when you "download" your movies, it's in a file format that requires the corresponding app to watch. Any good strats for extracting the actual video file? I've looked at a few online converters but they cap at 30min videos or look sketchy af.

Not sure if this is helpful but I have my own digital media collection and I use various tools like Jdownloader2 which sometimes works YouTube and really depends on the video but blocks private/paywall content but I've used it to download some movies that are free on YouTube. As far as other stuff you could invest in DVDs, get programs like MakeMKV and rip the iso file or rip the videos themselves and use a converter to make them work. MakeMKV you can use on DVDs for free but have to do a one time purchase if you wanna rip Blu-Ray's.
There are also places like soulseek, nicotine+, some streaming rippers that are kinda spotty and have to pay for or even internet archive that have a whole bunch of high quality movies on them. There are also some sources that you can look through yourself to see what works for you best. As well as places that can help you with data upkeep and backups.

There are also mad film twitter accounts that post high quality download links all the time

Not sure if it works for paywalled content but https://cobalt.meowing.de/ which is a community fork of https://cobalt.tools is my go to for ripping video and audio from the internet.

late to the game here but this is something i have been increasingly caring about as well . just feeling like corps are getting more and more comfortable with chipping away at our ownership of media that we purchase, and with how far they go to shove paywalls/ ads/ signups/ subs/ down our throats . it is definitely getting worse and more shameless.

as far as video goes, the one tool i’ve found consistent success with is yt-dlp .

it’s a command line tool, but it has very good documentation on the github, and works with a ton of streaming sites beyond its namesake youtube . you kinda just paste in a url, hit enter, and it saves the file to your home folder (there are a ton of options and extra functions but in a pinch the default straight up works perfectly fine) . if you go down the rabbit hole (which i haven’t because it’s a lot) , it might be the last downloader you’ll ever need .
