I've been listening to lots of Okami and FF7 OG music lately, very amazing songs in those OSTs. I'm wondering if anyone else here has a soft spot for any game OSTs.

There's so many to choose from!

I think Katamari is a pretty obvious choice for one of the best OSTs. I've only played the 1st and 2nd games, but if I had to choose, it'd probably be the OST from the first game

Minecraft is also another obvious answer. I've been revisiting that one a bunch recently.

I have very complicated and frustrated feelings with this franchise, but (potentially hot take) I think the first Destiny's OST is fantastic. Imo, I think Bungie knocked it out of the park with Destiny 1's creative direction all around. But unfortunately, it's still Destiny lol

I also have a personal soft spot for the Nintendog's soundtrack too lol. Really, just a lot of soundtracks from DS games generally. I'm playing through the 2nd Professor Layton rn and I'm liking the music, even if it's nothing impressive or spectacular.

Final Fantasy VIII & XII have some of my favorites for the franchise. On a similar level, Halo 3 and ODST hit just right.

aside from the songs being sick, every track in the game having an additional vocal layer that only kicks in when you activate your power up is just perfect. if you activate it during the boss battles with other Intoners, the vocals come out as jumbled, fragmented nonsense, because Zero is attempting to weaken their songs with her own. music is so intrinsically tied into everything ingame that I'd pretty easily consider it my favourite, even if games like Nier have the better individual songs. if that makes sense

second video is timestamped so you can hear what I mean. i just think it's cool as hell

maybe not the greatest of all time but sin and punishment doesnt get brought up enough regarding great osts

Of course, I think Ridge Racer Type 4 has to be up there. I still find it kind of surreal that a racing game was given such a funky soundtrack. It's soooo good. I can't think of another soundtrack that makes me feel the way that one does.

Racing Lagoon, MOON, Katamari (1 and 2), Gran Turismo 4, Earthbound, Space Funeral, and Halo 2 or 3 are my runner ups.

And to throw a modern game into the mix, FF7 Rebirth; the sheer amount of unique music alone was staggering, but the fact that most of them are bangers.. it made playing the game so incredible. It must have been such an undertaking to put that one together.

Layton's OSTs are always perfect for the atmosphere, I highly recommend the rest of them if you haven't played any others

I absolutely will! I plan on playing all of them :)

Been playing DS games that I missed out on when I was younger lately. I started out with Curious Village a few weeks ago and I really, really loved it. Been alternating between the Layton games and the Ace Attorney games (really loved that too), so after finishing Diabolical Box, then it’s the 2nd ace attorney, etc. etc.

Really looking forward to what the rest of the series has to offer! I really liked curious village, and that’s not even the one most people consider to be best. Maybe I’ll do a little write up forum post here once my gamer journey is over, the Layton series deserves to be talked about more
