was curious if anyone else here plays a lot of hard games, achievement hunts and aims for 100% game completions like me.

feel free to use this to talk about hard things youve done in games and are proud of, or if you wanna flex your clears and grinds lol.

ill post some of mine soon

alright here it goes

Celeste
1755434646752.webp
celeste was pretty easy to 100%. the gameplay and difficulty balancing is really good, but i didnt really like the collectathon parts of the game. so glad you dont need golden strawberries for 100%.

Everhood
1755434791375.webp
one of my first major grinds for one good reason, the goddamn incinerator. really proud of this grind. everhood was really good and some fights were really fun to grind, my favorite being Reconciliation and Frog's Wrath. i kinda wish there wasnt a way to cheese most fights by doing them on the 2nd easiest diff to completely decimate their health, and the Universe fight cheese on its last section. the 150 000 jumprolls ach was really pointless though but whatever.
amazing game to grind if you completely disregard the incinerator's existence. never EVER wish the pain and suffering of the incinerator grind upon someone.
im still salty about how much they fumbled the sequel.

Deep Rock Galactic
1755435292843.webp
one of my favorite games ever. most of the grinding here isnt even hard, mostly just playing the game. the fact you need 500+ hours in the game to get the gold promos for every character ach is definitely a sign this isnt meant for completionists, but hey im a big fan of the game so of course i got it lol. the annoying achievements here were Car Pool, which is a multiplayer ach and everyone knows multiplayer achs are awful, and 100 solo missions... in a co-op game.
anyways this game is awesome go play it, rock and stone.

Thumper
1755435869941.webp
yeah i already talked about this banger of a game before. im still calling it "metalheart if it was a videogame" and nobody will stop me. im a huge fan of the sound design and visual direction, i want more cool aggressive abstract things like this. the S rank grinding in this game is mostly (and thankfully) short trial and error sections in levels. ive checked out the modding scene and uhh yeah that is an entirely different beast lmao. they do not fuck around with their mods at all lol.
also Thrasher, the spiritual sequel of this game with the same guy working on the visual direction, is gonna be released on pc soon and im pretty stoked for its release.

A Hat In Time - Death Wish
1755439524732.webp
year and a half long grind aughhh. i dont have the nyakuza dlc yet so ill 100% the game after i get it.
this was a trip alright. some DWs were good and some were agonizing. the bosses here are easily the best out of the bunch though, even if they can be insanely infuriating. the music from this dlc is really good and im glad they put some thought in the difficulty balancing. this one requires a lot of commitment to clear. its both good and bad and you do need to look up guides for some of them.
snatcher ez modo reference is still utterly insane to me lmao.

Half-Life 2
1755436577531.webp
this is when they combined episodes 1 and 2 into the main game like a year ago.
this game didnt even feel like a grind because it was insanely funny. the playthrough consisted of the main game, ep 1 and ep 2, but the main game was modded. the modded main game playthrough is one of the funniest playthroughs ive done because 1. it was insanely chaotic 2. a friend whos a huge half-life fan watched me play the entire game including eps 3. the collection/modpack was assembled by that friend and i had no idea what to expect during my playthrough, which made the playthrough a whole lot funnier.
you mostly need guides for achievements here so dont expect anything too crazy. some were gimmicky and fun, some were annoying and yeah there isnt much to it. good and fun game, do a modded playthrough with a friend and youve got yourself a memorable experience.

Picayune Dreams
1755437789791.webp
im really glad this game doesnt overstay its welcome as a survivors-like, both for casuals and completionists. the music is good, the game is good, the visuals are good and yeah theres nothing much to it. i do kinda wish that there were a bit more achs for looping and infected picayune.

Awaria
1755438516373.webp
dude vanripper needs to make more bullet hells cause holy shit this game was insanely good. literally everything in this game is good: music, sound design, character design (Striga's design goes hard af), gameplay, difficulty balancing, art and visuals etc. just go play it its free and its a banger.

thats most of the stuff from steam. ongoing grinds rn are: jsab hardcore S ranks, hotline miami games 100%, furi 100%, nuclear throne 100%, stray savior 100%, void rains 100% and a fnaf fangame maxmode.

onto 2 roblox clears now.

Far From Land S.O.S
1755441921167.webp
insanely good fnaf fangame. the number one thing i care about in fnaf fangames is the gameplay and this game has really good gameplay (with no camera mechanics :DDD). grinding was pretty fun too and the difficulty balancing was really good. heavy recommend if you like fnaf fangames even if you dont plan on going for S.O.S

Strange Place - Lunatic King
1755442646610.webp
one of my favorite games on roblox. god i wish it had better creators and a better history :(
this is one of the best boss rush games you can find on roblox. the nier inspirations are obvious and im a huge fan of 3d bullet hells. this game gave me a lot of inspirations and ideas for projects that hopefully will exist in the future. the music choices, visuals, gameplay and difficulty balancing is really good. heavy recommend if you wanna find a good boss rush game. i really do wish i could see this game in a positive light though

honorary mentions:
- Doors - Super Hard Mode: never subject a poor soul to attempt this rng mess lmao. i was able to clear this on the very last day before it got pulled after 2 weeks of grinding lol
- sitting through the entirety of Homestuck for a year: im not kidding this shit took me a whole year to read. i put this here as a joke but felt like it kinda fits lol

thats all of mine for now. ill post other things i complete in this thread from now on

im back with 3 more game clears, fnaf fangame clears in particular

Night at Nuggit's 15/20 Maxmode / 100% Clear
nuggitsclear.webp
207th place on the Maxmode Main List
surprisingly a really good fangame, considering the target audience. i initially downloaded this game like 2 months ago cause me and a friend (who would watch me play) wanted to play some bad fnaf fangames to laugh at and we thought this'd be one of them. finishing the story mode had us geeking out and going "how the actual hell is this a really good game???".
the 15/20 maxmode was really hard (no shit), pretty fun and relatively consistent, but luck and event luck (yes this game has events during nights) definitely does play a factor in the difficulty. this one was the hardest/grindiest out of the 3. pretty cool game.
the dev also made a few Five Nights at Wario's fangames, the best and most popular being Cabin Fever 2, also insanely good fangame i recommend both nuggit's and cabin fever 2 to whoever here plays fnaf fangames.

also im working on a video for this fangame with that friend, one for the story mode and one for the maxmode grind. theyre going to be unhinged lol

Virus Alert MYDOOM Clear
1759356564333.webp

124th place on the Maxmode Main List, 26th victor
another roblox clear. this game was pretty fun and straightforward and im glad it didnt overstay its welcome. the main juice of this game is the mydoom maxmode grind. i considered this maxmode easier and beat it faster than nuggit's 15/20 even though its a huge jump on the main list. however, the maxmode here is WAY more stressful that 15/20. my run lasted 21 minutes and i had 2% power left lmao. its thankfully mostly skill and speed based, but theres this rat with some rng to it that is considered the hardest enemy to deal with lol. i recorded my clear of this but doubt ill upload it anywhere. the dev does do other fnaf maxmodes himself so he knew what he was doing thankfully. enjoyable maxmode and pretty good fangame.

Five Nights at Wario's: Rise of the Corruption 100% Clear
1759353509597.webp

this was an insanely good and fun fangame. going into this completely blind was really fun. its basically 3 games in one but chaos universe does a lot of meta stuff like being launched through a different application, requiring you to do a mini-arg to progress etc. i wont spoil much.
in warped universe, every night has a different gimmick and you adjust the enemy ai yourself. time universe is 'free roam' that follows the standard fnaf game formula of 5 nights and is also really well thought out. chaos universe is basically an rpg with a lot of minigames and meta stuff you gotta do.
warped and chaos were easily the most fun to do in the game. time has a really cool boss night and is generally executed well. the maxmodes here arent too bad thankfully apart the time universe which has weird rng shenanigans.
this game is absolutely worth checking out if youre even slightly interested. the enjoyability is on par with Cabin Fever 2.

however, slight warning on some weird content for early chaos universe that ill spoil cause itd kinda ruin the surprise of one of the minigames, ignore if you dont care too much:
youre gonna have to dig through the dev's yt channel for some arg-type videos to progress and the yt channel has a lot of questionable vrchat furry stuff that youre gonna have to ignore lol. the dev was also recently exposed for doin some awful shit (you already know what it is, the usual). thankfully the game doesnt have anything linked with the weird stuff so its another case of separating art from artist.

dunno what i wanna grind next lol. im thinking on Void Rains, Furi, JSAB or something off steam idk. the nuclear throne grind is still slowly ongoing.
btw itd be neat if yall have any recommendations for hard games i could try out and grind, both on steam and off steam

I saw you 100%ed Celeste in your last post. I also feel grateful goldens aren't necessary for 100% haha.

If you're looking for some other platformer recs (besides Silksong lmao), here are a few that are more straightforward (i.e. not metroidvanias)
  • Garbanzo Quest: Goofy artstyle and writing, plays like Megaman meets Mario World, great in Co-Op or singleplayer
  • Grapple Dog: Dog with a grappling hook. Music sounds like Hideo Kojima and you can build up a ton of speed. Mandatory collectible gates
  • Rebounder: Currently in demo mode. Comic artstyle with gameplay with influence from SMW romhacks. My most anticipated game right now, I've already been grinding for speedrun clears on the demo
Couple Metroidvania picks in case you're into that sort of thing:
  • Silksong: 100% worth the hype, I'm 50 hours in and still keep finding new stuff. Excellent movement, definitely gonna try speedrunning this once I finish true ending
  • Vernal Edge: PS1-style metroidvania across multiple islands, very combat focused but has a great vibe
All of the above are pretty difficult and are on steam.

Also, if you haven't checked out Kaizo SMW yet, that's always a blast. Maddy Thorson (of Celeste fame) just released another Kaizo hack (Masterpiece). it's Master difficulty so I haven't given it a go personally, but there are some more approachable hacks like Mario's Pizza Party 3 or Cuter Kaizo World. I've beat both of those hacks, and if you have any experience with the original SMW, it should be doable to pick those up and run through them in an evening or two.

Kaizo does have a bit of a barrier to entry (getting an emulator, legally obtaining a rom, patching the rom with the hack files) but once you've done it once it's pretty simple. There's a ton of really cool stuff out there on the easier end, definitely worth taking a look at since you enjoy Celeste.

I played HK in 2022 and I might be hung by jumper cables for this but I found it kinda meh. I didn't like the permanent choices the game doesn't tell you about, map was atrocious to traverse and half the content is hidden behind walls all over the entire map. I'm usually not a fan of having to look something up online to figure out how to do, which is really prominent in HK. Might revisit it at some point with a guide but rn Silksong is not on my list. And I don't think metroidvanias are my thing but I could be wrong.

I'm not too into platformers for the sake of platforming, I like them more for the sake of boss fights and/or bullet hells, hence why I like IWBTG fangames (even though I haven't played any in a while lol). There's a fangame called I Wanna Be The Justice Guy and that is basically what I'm looking for when it comes to platformers, hard and fleshed out boss fights. The dev also made 2 other games on steam that follow it's same gameplay loop, Void Memory and Stray Savior (which I need to finish).

I've seen kaizo stuff before and I definitely wouldn't enjoy it at all. Trying to normaly set up and play that one Mario Coronation Day creepypasta game was a pain in the ass. And as I said earlier, I like platformers for boss fights and not too much for the platforming but it can vary.

Also funny thing is out of all the games I listed on my first post, Celeste was the shortest for a reason cause it was just sorta alright lol. It didn't really blow my mind apart from being just a good game in general. When it comes to hard games I like bullet hells, boss fights and mainly gimmicky stuff (preferably gimmicky boss fights). Things like Thumper, Everhood, AHIT Death Wish, Ultrakill, FNAF fangames, Furi, Strange Place etc. I've been meaning to check out Dark Deception cause I know it has achievements for S ranking levels and every level is different in some way. It is also a very rare case of a horror game with fun gameplay. Something like it that I've played on roblox was Death Crystals which is an It Steals fangame and it was really fun and good. I wanna find more fast paced horror like that, similarly to FNAF maxmodes.

I might check out terraria infernum with a lot of other mods with a friend soon because he wanted us to do something challenging together. Terraria infernum with a bunch of other mods has been on my list for a long time but never got the proper motivation for the bosses and in hoping to god I, or he, doesn't drop it

All fair points. I'm a big platformer junkie, big fan of movement systems that let me go fast. (Celeste is one of my favorite games of all time because of the wavedashing and wallbounce mechanics)

I will say that I was meh on HK, mostly picked up Silksong for the memes, but dang it blew me away. Even if you run it with a guide, the movement and bossfights are so much fun. It's definitely not for everyone, there are 100% some jank hidden walls, but the movement and vibes kept me going.

You miiiiight like Selaco if you enjoyed Ultrakill, its another Boomer Shooter, I had a blast with it, but its more gauntlet-focused than boss focused.
