Realized there wasn't a thread for musicians to chat here on Deskgen, so now there is!

I know there's at least a few of us on here that make/play music, it'd be cool to share techniques and info on free plugins and samples and whatever :)

==================================================================

Personally, I make basically every genre, and I make everything in Reason 12 (which is not a very popular DAW these days). I've been doing music for 9ish years, taking it seriously for about 6.

I have two projects currently:

Unnamed breakcore/chiptune/shoegaze(?) project, trying to write this with no soft synths and minimal VST effects, trying to do everything with a guitar, some pedals, gameboy with LSDJ, and Korg DS-10 on a 3DS. Nothing released yet, but it'll be similar to this track from 2023 with better production and no reeses from serum :)

Harpuia: Ambient/Melodic dubstep project, ongoing since 2020 (though the early albums were vaporwave/mallsoft somehow lmao). Currently working on the fifth LP, which should sound like the latest few tracks on the Harpuia soundcloud

If anyone wants to trade patches or samples or collab or whatever hmu :)

That's right it was missing a musician thread!

I basically do jungle/dnb inspired tracks for the most part lately. (I say inspired because I sometimes take elements from these genres to make different sounding stuff) I would also like to dabble in ambient and 4 to the floor house/trance but projects are not fruitful yet... My discog is up on my website.

I use ableton live 12 and basically synthetize everything using serum for some reason. I might use some other VSTis such as Ob-XD or K1v for example if I need a more obscure sound. I like using VSTs or AMXDs that are not widely known and implement effects cheaply with artifacts, adding some digital character to the sound. (I got my own broken VSTs too hehe)

Right now I'm still looking for the overall art direction for my next album project... Might want to maybe have some features on it who knows.

How are you liking Serum 2? I downloaded it and played with it for maybe 20 minutes, just been too focused on guitar lately

i tried it - it's aight but i'm a little bored of the whole spectral thing now (which is its strong suit), seems like it's being spammed just like wavetable synthesis was a few years ago. not to say it sounds all the same as well but there's a specific "property" it has that is innovative and cool and "wow" sure, but it's not very musical anymore? not that i have a problem with atonal/noise stuff, i think it's not musical in a different sense that i can't quite put into words lol
