A Grain Of Salt Or Less: The Switch 2 Rumor Mill

The Switch 2 Joy-Cons and the way they smoothly moved in the darkness kinda reminds me of mice. Bonus points with the wrist straps moving like tails. Mario Paint 2 confirmed?
I really do wonder if they’re doing something nuts like that. I’d love it for FPS games.

Honestly this is the least excited I have been for a console, why did they make it bigger
To be fair… it’s not like it goes from not pocketable to less than not pocketable lol. But I do agree with you on size… I don’t want the switch any larger than it is.

imo, I'm very whelmed lol. I'm not disappointed, but it's also exactly what I expected it to be so I'm not really upset either. Only critique I have is that I hope there are other color options at launch, like the first switch. It's nitpicky, but something about the black reminds me of 3rd party switch controllers, like the Hori split pad pro or somethin. Just feels cheap imo. But tbf I'm also totally willing to admit that I'm in the minority on this lol. The colored accents are very cool. But I was talking to some friends and mentioned how I think something as small as also having colored face buttons could do a lot, but idk.

I made a shitty mockup in 2 minutes of colored face buttons earlier today just to see how it'd look and see if I'm onto something or just smoking crack

Again, very bad mockup lol. But you get it. Not a huge difference but I think I'd prefer it, I dunno.

Otherwise, I hope Nintendo does their Nintendo thing and makes some dumb, gimmicky peripherals for this thing to make up for the lack of substantial changes. Like some of those rumored attachments for the top usb-c, like a camera or something. photo dojo 2 would go crazy. If not that, maybe some other silly hardware like the alarmo. I've kinda made peace with the fact that crazy console innovations generation after generation is starting to become a thing of the past, so I'm willing take what we can get. I have faith in Nintendo and hope that they have some silly stuff planned for their next generation, it is Nintendo afterall

this'll probably be the only thing i say in this thread but this is lowkey one of my only personal gripes with the console. it made me a little sad seeing them remove the colors from the body of the joycons. that's what gave it more personality!! color makes things pop out and look interesting! why relegate that to the extension and make the whole outside face of the console a sleek black? i'm bored of it!!!! make your consoles look fun!!!!!

Lately I've been eagerly anticipating what the guys at Nintendo are cooking up for the Switch 2 Direct this coming April 2nd. I've been hearing lots of rumors and such, but I'm listing my final predictions here:

- Switch 2 may release sometime in June, which would line up with the North American release dates for the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance. November 2025 is also likely.
- Discussion of Nintendo utilizing Nvidia DLSS technology to upscale old Switch games on the new system, will demonstrate with a demo of Breath of the Wild running at 1440p 60fps.
- Switch 2 may be priced at $400, but could be $450
- Launch titles may be the new Mario Kart from the reveal trailer, alongside a Switch 2 tech demo game (think how Luigi's Mansion was the tech demo for the GameCube, Wii Sports for the Wii, Nintendo Land for the Wii U, etc.).
- Metroid Prime 4 may release in November as Nintendo's big holiday title for this year.
- Annoucement of Nintendo DS games coming to Switch Online (sadly may be exclusive to only the expansion pass tier). Launch games are Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS, Nintendogs, and Zelda Phantom Hourglass. Release date could be Summer 2025.
- Some type of 3DS port is announced and releasing for Switch 1 and Switch 2.
- Splatoon 4 may be announced, release date unknown.
- Annoucement of Masahiro Sakurai's new game (either a new Smash Bros or a new game entirely).
- Switch 2 Direct ends with reveal of a new 3D Mario game, either releasing this holiday or March 2026.

I'm predicting Animal Crossing at or near launch. It's been 5 years since the last one and that was an absolute phenomenon (partly because of world events, but AC is always a pretty big deal). I think Animal Crossing is much more of a system seller than most people think, and if I were Nintendo I'd try super hard to get AC out at launch.

Since the same team does both Splatoon and Animal Crossing, I think we'll get one or the other. Maybe an enhanced version of Splatoon 3 since we know those are coming now, or just some new content since it'll be backwards compatible.

Both hoping I'm right since I love Animal Crossing, and hoping I'm wrong because I've been playing a ton of Splatoon 3 lately and would love some new Salmon Run waves and bosses.

on a related note, I really hope DLSS isn't mandatory on switch 2. I tried using it in Portal: RTX and it made me really nauseous. Something about the low sample rates made the textures swirl a ton, and that was on my roommates' 3070 rig, which there's no chance of the Switch 2 having comparable performance to. Maybe if they're being super careful it could work, but I haven't been impressed with my firsthand experiences with it so far.

A new Animal Crossing would make a lot of sense, considering they stopped updating New Horizons a long time ago. I could see a new Animal Crossing being released potentially sometime next year.

A new AC or a new Splatoon would be golden (not that Nintendo would let either of those golden gooses lie), but unlikely. I think that it's going to be some new weird one-off "franchise" like ARMS or 1-2 Switch... Maybe even 1-2 Switch-2!
