the worst part about certain social medias is that if you post more than once a day, they will kill your reach. but what if i make several cool art pieces in one day, and want all my lovely followers to see? too bad! you will now be banished to algorithm hell.

so, i am making this thread! i want to post whatever i want, whenever i want, without the worry of what is good or bad for the algorithm. I have wips, gifs, and random assets that have been left to gather dust that deserve to be shared somewhere!

let's get started!

Sorry for my absence! I was recruited to make the merch announcement for Donut Media's summer merch drop. Someone I talk to on-and-off in a automotive art server got hired by them to manage their merch team, and in turn, they reached out to me to make this drop special! I kinda no life'd this project and went absent on my socials, but now I'm back!

With a two week timeline, it was a bit tight. My tasks?
- 1 4k youtube ad, 1 main IG reel, additional social posts to compliment these things
- 6 rotating clothes gifs + several web/email/sms gifs
- all the assets modeled, rigged, and animated. this meant 4 cast members, a detailed recreation of their project truck, and an environment for the video.
- videos edited/sfx'd
... so my work was definitely cut out for me.
scenecomp.pngclothes gif comp.pngtruckcomp.png

If you hadn't heard, some of the cast just announced their departure from Donut though, in the middle of this project. So, I had to make some last minute adjustments and reanimate/render out portions of the video, the NIGHT BEFORE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO AIR. UGH.

Was still super cool to see a video I made in their upload, though.

Unfortunately, the controversy of the hosts leaving has turned the comments into a warzone. ((of course, the hosts who left said they share no bad blood and wish the best for their friends at Donut, but that didn't matter)). Although a few people thought the ad was sick, a large part of their audience don't really get it. Hahaha. I understand, it is a very mainstream audience, so when they see lower fidelity graphics, they just think its a skill issue and not an artistic choice. I have some irl friends like this so I kinda know the mindset.

But, it was a lot of fun all in all to put this together, just bad timing I think! The team I met over there were all talented and passionate, so I hope this all blows over for them. They are trying their best to make cool shit still.

Even went down to their studio when they kicked this project off. Talked cars and graphic design. Was a great time. Shoutout to conceptcarstudio for bringing me on for this. Was a refreshing change of pace!

So, now that I have time to get back to personal work, it's time to kick things into overdrive. Lots of catching up to do. Starting off with making assets for the
upcoming merch drop. Above is the logo for Junko's broken halo. I was trying to get something with similar vibes to the original Bionicle logo. Went through many attempts but I love how it turned out. These will probably get turned into a sticker, and will also be on the packaging (and used in many future projects).

This drop was supposed to happen in June, but the Donut commission took too much time, so it is getting pushed to July. With the extra time, I decided to look into getting some other cool items to launch alongside the shirts. Still looking into it as we speak, but at least the shirts look sick! These are super limited so I wanted to give them a special logo inside the shirt.

I have been plotting for awhile to inject a lot more Bionicle DNA into my work once I got the new character models done, and finally I am putting my experiments to the test. Will be sharing the results in the future, but for now, I gotta keep it under wraps.

Anyways, I decided to launch this merch drop alongside the first episode of the Junko mini-series, as of right now. Hoping to get that released by July 20th. If circumstances change, I will release the merch without the episode airing.

Little Idea Tangent/Future Plans
I was thinking though, what is the next frontier for my physical goods.. Of course, figurines are on the table, and planned for a September release, but I started playing around with the idea of releasing figures that have the parts mix and match-able. Maybe not pose-able, but it would be cool to have a special line of figures that can be customized. Idk. I will pick up a 3D printer sometime this year to start experimenting. Definitely gotta get some bionicle-esque canisters made for whatever it is.

I even have an idea for a Brawlers equivalent of Kraata. hahah. Could make those cool ass pods that they came in, too. I'm more so referencing the physical goods version of Kraata and not their lore equivalence. Anyways, the Halo shards would harness a different type of power, and have a coordinated color and symbol to show this. Junko would plug and play different combos for different powers. This was also a little game idea I wrote down last night. I would love to release a Brawlers demo disc with a bunch of tiny game ideas, packaged with a collectors item or something (like a special figure, or a booklet, or metal charm or something. Presentation would be similar to the Bionicle Power Pack.

Also, release a few focused art books, each one focusing on a specific character. I know this is a lot to take in, but I will get all this done. It will take awhile, but I'll get there.

Anyways, thanks for reading!

Where have I been..

What started as a accidental absence since I forgot my forum password, turned into a hiatus from
most of my socials.

I have been a bit burnt out, I guess. Jaded with all the posting, numbers, algorithm; this inherent need to "try and keep up". It's exhausting. And like all artists, I can't help but compare myself to myself of year's past. The numbers used to be better.. Does my audience even care.. Lower engagement this month..
Yknow, usual nonsense!

I think what I want from my art is not what these platforms want me to make. I don't want to make short, dopamine-targeted viral content. But does that mean I don't have a place on the wider web?

Usually in times like these, I look elsewhere for my creativity. I'm burnt on making videos, so I found myself looking at trusty ol' RPGMaker MV.. Ah, yes. Was I too foolish to abandon you so quickly, RPGMaker..? Was there possibility in making a mini-game filled RPG in there, after all? Well, let's find out.

I decided to put together a FISHING-ONLY game, with the sole purpose of making an interactive, fun, short experience. It's hard to make something with variety in this engine, but I tried! It wasn't supposed to even get as polished as it is, but as I got deeper, I really saw something special in it.

Who knows, now that the foundation is set, maybe I could come back and build upon it in the future.

Hope everyone has been well! Have fun!

This is the last thing I expected from you but LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Going through the archives.

5 years of this era of Brawlers. So crazy. I still look very fondly on the designs that really got the ball rolling on the present day. Wanted to share them here, as well. I very often wish I was still doing more vector graphics, but I just cannot find the time to do it when I also have so much 3D to cover.

The Y2K scene was so much smaller back then. I do miss back in 2018-2019 before the scene, its categories, and its cultures were completely diluted by the masses.. simpler times..

Ah, well. I live in brawlers world, not the real world, and things are great in there!

Here are some of my favorite 2D pieces of that time. I would love to talk all about each and every piece, the place in time I was in, and what I thought my future in art would be like, at that time. I never could have guessed how it all ended up. Now's not the time, though!

My profile picture came from this Appy 2020 poster-- Appy's debut. I haven't changed it since, and I don't know if I ever will.

And a bonus, 2018 Appy (just a Demon at that time), from an abandoned game project (that still fits into brawlers world lore btw).

I'll share some even earlier brawlers stuff in the near future.

Help Miao Miao and Appy through 3 minigames, in order to save their Halloween Party!

---- ABOUT ----

This is my little tribute to Halloween Flash games. They were some of my favorite internet games to play around this time of year, and I have been dying to make some minigames for my website, so I finally took the opportunity to make something! Just barely made it on time, too!

I made this over the course of the last two weeks and have just barely finished it on Halloween. It was all made using Scratch! Unfortunately, to guarantee my completion, I did rush a few aspects, but I don't think any of it is game breaking, just unpolished and janky. Maybe I will come back next year and
flesh a few of these ideas out a bit more.

For now, I will save any more polishing for the next few days, after I get some rest. Regardless of its jank, I hope you have fun :)

i haven't updated this thread in a minute. have been swamped in mismanaged client projects, personal projects, irl, etc.
here's a little something i did over the last couple of days that has really made me energized. a lot of my personal work i find myself not happy with but i did these little designs and i feel "the spark" in my brain.

junkoOnlyYou.webpaoiOnlyYou.webp

i usually think my 2D renditions of my characters are best left to the community. i can never get their likeness the way i want them to be. but i dusted off my good ol vectoring skills when i redid my website, and it seems it's given me newfound strength in rendering my characters. i think i nailed this shit. they will become fantastic staples in my designs and merchandise..... Aoi definitely does not get enough love. she is so cute here it makes me emotional.

i intend to update this thread with some of the other stuff i've done lately, once my big client project (finally) wraps up. its a doozy.

brawlers studio v2 (part 1/2)

happy i finally get to document this, because it means it's finally done. it is on my art thread because, as you will see, i used a lot of my artistic skills to bring this place to life. 1 year ago, i moved out of my dad's house. as much as i loved being there, it was time for me to enter the next chapter of my life. in my new place, i finally got a room just for my work. no longer did i have to dedicate my bedroom to being an all-in-one studio.

of course, though, there were many many other priorities to handle, so actually "setting up" my office was on the backburner. just needed to have a place for my PC to sit. the rest could come later.

i won't get into the details too much, but i was burned the fuck out from everything. and it really did not help that my creative space was still in piles and boxes. i dreaded having to spend my time in there, i was actively avoiding being in that environment. so at the beginning of this year, about 8 months after moving out, i decided to finally get it all together.

i would like to walk you through the timeline here, so you can get a visual of this journey.

here was brawlers studio v1. the room i spent 25 years of my life in. i don't have too many pics on hand, but brawlers as we know it was all made from here. all client projects, personal projects, etc.
A6357467-D1D6-4A34-8566-4EEAF90DAD41.webp0E523F88-E7B7-4AAC-96DD-7E8E872CF1D0.webp

working and sleeping in the same space really fucked up my body man. i couldn't sleep, because my mind was always "on the clock". severe stress, heart palpitations, many many all nighters. it became real bad. but im glad i had the space to do all this at all.

but now, i would finally have a space just for my work. one that i have complete control over. so, how did it look for the first 8 months?

IMG_2209.webp

it was miserable. Lol. all my stuff was packed away or in piles behind me. no art. just white walls. no speakers, cramped as hell. just a miserable setup but one that got me back to work as quick as possible.

i was focused on the rest of my new place, which needed a lot of loving. i learned alot about interior design, lighting, what i did or didn't like, and learned A LOT about assembling ikea furniture, etc., which was great! i could use all this newfound knowledge on my office. In Dec. 2024, i finally tackled doing my workspace. i watched a great video series by Matthew Encina on his workspace and his home office, which really inspired me on mine.

So, i measured my room and very accurately recreated it in blender. Then, i went onto ikea's website, looked through their products, and used their online measurements to see how they would fit into my space. this was a game changer.

i picked up a larger desk, a drawer system, and one of their Besta TV units for above storage (an idea stolen directly from Matthew Encina). Oh, and the doughnut lamp also from ikea (i have on in my living room as well but i loved it so much, i got another). It all fit exactly how i measured it in blender.
IMG_2926.webpIMG_2925.webp
but, the rest of my mess persisted behind me. only decorations i had were those higround keebs and mousepad. my trophies for my dutiful service to higround. ironically, i have been using the same keyboard for about 15 years now, i don't really have an interest in mechanical keebs. anyways, it was time to start figuring out the rest of my decorations and junk. Unfortunately, no matter where i looked, i couldn't find anything that fit my space or my needs. That was when i decided to get a little adventurous.

In Matthew Encina's video, he shows off a lot of awesome custom work. I had not considered that for myself, but I talked to a carpenter i met through my dad, lightly mentioned some ideas, and he responded positively.

this opened an (expensive but worthwhile) door for me.

i went back to my blender file, and started designing exactly what i wanted. since my space was already recreated to accurate measurements, all i had to do was design my stuff however i wanted, use blender's ruler, and convert it back to inches. then of course double check those measurements in my real space, but yea. very simple all things considered!
BLU.webp22222.webp

these blueprints changed a few times, but i am including it here to give you an idea of how things were laid out.
here were my ideas:
CRT stand would elevate the CRT enough to sit under/level with the windows. the cubbies would need to be big enough to house ps2 games vertically (this was the standard of all the shelves). i have a large gaming collection that i would like to store tastefully.

shelves would need to hug the walls to maximize the room, since it is rather small. floating shelves (corner and above desk) would be painted white like the walls, but the floor systems would be darker wood, to complement the lighter wood that the floor currently is.

the floating shelves above the window were not included, i had changed my mind about them. and the poster placeholders were just to give me an idea of how much empty space i would have after all this.

so, i sent all the ideas and blueprints out to my carpenter pal, and waited...

and waited...

brawlers studio v2 (part 2/2)

i don't know if you guys have realized it but this year has been pretty hectic in the USA. materials were harder to get ahold of than expected. so all this quite literally got finished.. yesterday. the original estimate was february. 5 months of waiting to FINALLY.. FINALLY get my office done. about a year since i originally acquired this space.

but i am happy to say, stage 1 is done!

IMG_3714.webpIMG_3715.webp
IMG_3710.webpIMG_3707.webpIMG_3704.webp

one of the things i was most excited for was lighting the space. in blender, i could simulate the lighting to see what i liked or didn't like before committing. and in the main room of my place, i learned about smart lights. i have an ikea system out there, which was very affordable, and i love very much, but it's not too.. bright? in my search for a better system, i learned about the philips hue. it seemed to be exactly what i was looking for. All except the price. shit is EXPENSIVE. but, i had slowly been picking pieces up on sale, prepping for this office build.

i am happy to say that 1, it is seriously seriously good, and two, the lighting turned out better than i could have hoped. since it is a smart system, i control it with my phone, have several presets, etc. It can do any color you want, but i prefer standard warm or cool lighting, depending on the time of day.

currently nothing is final, none of it secured, since i have some cable management to do, and some posters to put up, but whatever!! i am just going to enjoy it for awhile now. and speaking of posters...
IMG_3700.webp

i haven't had ANY wall art up for a year now. its driving me nuts. i wanted some loud splashes of color on the back walls, so i put these TDR WipeOut posters together. As much as I would LOVE to own a real TDR piece, they are just too expensive for me. And this way, i could get a sharp, high quality print for myself. These will be going up shortly. still figuring out what other pieces to get done for my room.

22222final.webp

i am supremely grateful to have the means to do something like this. and i am so happy to see my junk again. its been literally a year since i seen most of my beautiful crap. the display is most likely to switch around in the coming months but this is a perfectly fine start. just happy to have the stuff that inspires me front and center again. it's been really tough trying to continue brawlers world when every day i sit in a white box with junk and crud on the floor.

i am beyond excited to work in this space. my brain feels better already.

thank you for reading.

ahhh this is so awesome to see the progress of!!! i remember seeing the photo of the CRT stand a while ago, but it's really interesting to see how much effort went into getting it there! i had no idea it was custom made! sick shit dude!!!
