[BUILD THREAD] My AE86 Corolla GT-S Hatchback.

The two tone blue is what I'd do personally, but the logistics make it difficult.

Black is pretty slick, though i'm always wary of dark cars thanks to summer heat, though that may be mostly due to my daily driver prius having trash AC

for solid colors, i'd put my vote on black. i really love the unified color across the whole body, really making it look like something worth showing off. and from what i gather, that's partially your intent! ride it and be proud!

for mixed on the other hand, assuming it's possible, the UKDM light/dark gray just calls to me. i dunno if it's because i get BTTF vibes from it, or just because that color mix on this shape of a car simply feels right, but that's gotta be my top choice for sure. the High Sonic Toning also looks quite slick, but i'm not 100% sure the image provided there does it enough justice. i'd probably have to see a bit more of it to be confident in that as a vote

high sonic toning is hard to capture in photos, but its a wonderful black/silver two tone only offered on high end models (i believe). here it is on a LEVIN front AE86, which features hard lights instead of flip ups. It's a fantastic color if done correctly.

The light/grey dark grey is so cool. A great alternative to the usual, high contrast two tones that exist (i.e. the standard panda color). I believe maybe it also made it to the US, but I definitely see it more on the UK-spec models. I figure it could be cool to see those colors on a car with more aggressive styling (low, deep wheels, like my previous build).
also holy shit i've never seen someone drift an AE86 before. i really know nothing about cars
we all gotta start somewhere! might be first time i have heard this, though.. hahaha. you're at the fun part! Getting into it now with the ease of access to the information-- the world is your oyster! enjoy the rabbit hole! the sport of drifting can attribute most of it's popularity to the AE86 and Keiichi Tsuchiya. Of course, these cars are fantastic for grip racing too, but drift culture and initial d is what made it a global icon. The AE86 has so, so, soo much cool history all over the world, which is one of the reasons I think they're so interesting. And despite the extreme modifications people have done with them ever since, the OG's had it right: simple is best!

the two-tone blue even looks good on the coupes! so lovely, and very unique. if i knew any 86 specialists close by, this color would score much higher on my list...

very good point on the black + summer combo. my AC is not reliable in the car either, but it wouldn't be my daily, so must weigh the odds.. these california summers are getting brutal, but is it worth it? hmmm

of course, just because its a drivers car, does not mean it should look shitty. i'm just saying, make it look nice, but drive it. you got all those nice parts? use them! don't care about the scrapes, the rock chips. take it to the track! we only have so much time on this planet, are you really gonna spend it just looking at a car you built?
This right here, this is king shit. The mentality every person who's lookin' to flip and make a buck later forgets. It's a much bigger flex--on top of simply just being correct--to use the shit you buy. Shoes? Wear them. Cars? Drive them. No one is gonna remember the 700th person to have a collection in storage, what's the point of the money if you never cash in what really matters?

As for the color. I get that the white is the history, the heritage, what most people think of when you say AE86, but because of that it's the standard. To me, this kinda stems from the, "buy it, use it" mentality, but I think going off the script and going for something that is brawler is the correct option. Why be white, black, or an Initial D replica when you could make it truly yours to use and pick your favorite color/colors? It's an 86, that fact alone calls into the equation the legacy. If you want yours to look like a clown exploded right next to it, I think that would not only make it more unique but truly cement the idea of it belonging to you, in the non-perfect way.

for me, it's a few things. when the body work and paint job will cost a decent chunk of change to do, i'd rather pick a proven color. as well as, i have seen hundreds of different colors on 86s, and most of them , i just don't like. I think louder colors really don't suit the car unless it's a full Drift build, and even then, idk. Since mine will be a street build, i dont know if it would fit the vibe (there is a lot more i can reference here but it might get cumbersome).

maybe if i was doing all the paint myself, i'd try something fresh. but cars in general are not somewhere i'm trying to like.. put my own spin on things. i think i get enough of that with brawlersworld, so i like surrendering myself to the proven formulas when it comes to cars. factory options, or iconic colors of 86 past; whatever it may be.

what i was planning to do regardless, was start digging through other great colors toyota has made for their other models. might as well! were there any good toyota colors recently, that i should put on this? it would be cool to still have a factory toyota color, even if it's a different generation. lots to research still!

I was talking with my brother about something similar, he has a plain gloss white 3rd gen Legacy/Liberty B4. we both thought that a modern metallic pearl white would look really cool. it's definitely getting into "resto-mod" territory but it'd stand out really well compared to a regular white sports car from this era, a bit more subtle still very premium looking.

would be cool to get a factory Lexus colour for this too, they have some phenomenal colours as of recently. (look into their work on structural blue if you haven't, GOD)

agreed. a pearl white (like that seen on the new Supra's) would be kind of awesome, just a subtle touch of flair.

and lexus really is one of the best out there right now. their structural blue, nori green pearl, copper crest, Cavier, cadmium orange, and flare yellows. what a LINEUP. maybe even their white pearl would be a good idea..
