Being a big gamer, I'm always looking out for comfortable and responsive game controllers to use while I slaughter zombies or build houses. My childhood favorite was always the GameCube controller and the Wii U Pro Controller, but for general use game controllers I've been using the 8BitDo Pro 2 controller. 8BitDo in general makes quality gamepad for a variety of platforms. Here's a link to their website: https://www.8bitdo.com/

I'm curious if anyone else on the site has other gamepads they'd recommend. I'm also a big fan on the D-Pad on the newer Xbox controllers.

My go-to is the 8BitDo SF30 Pro, the older one that doesn't have the grips. I originally bought it for playing platformers, but it's become my main switch controller since I loaned my pro controller to my brother when I moved out. It's not bad for Splatoon, even if it isn't quite as good as a pro controller.

My other main is the Xbox One controller, which basically only gets used for Rocket League since the PC version doesn't support the 8BitDo for some reason.

I should try the Xbox Series X controller, I have not liked the D-Pad on any modern controllers since the Wii, they're all too clicky or don't rock as well as a GBA/SNES/DS I find.

you need to be steel battalion controllermaxxing but really I've been using a ds4/5 for pretty much everything if i'm on PC. which i mostly use to play ps1/2 games so i guess it fits.
i'm really not picky though, i think the only time i've ever picked up a controller and gone "hm this doesn't feel good" is the ds3

I currently use a 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth. It works perfectly for every game I play on my PC, and I can connect it to my Switch if I need to. I'm interested in getting the NSO Gamecube controller they announced because I've never had an official Gamecube controller and it would be nice to have one with close to new buttons and triggers, if the controller is as good as the previous NSO ones.

still wish they would release the price for that...

Have you tried running Rocket League through Steam? Even if you own the game through Epic, you should be able to use Steam Input by running it through Steam, and Steam Input should support your SN30 Pro

Oh that's a great idea! I had a friend that used to do that for Minecraft Controller support. I'd give up analog triggers for digital, but it's worth at least playing around with in case there's an epic free game that I'd want the D-Pad for.

It isn’t as aesthetically pleasing as some others, but the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is my go-to no matter what. I’ll use it on my computer whenever I can and it simply is just my favorite. If someone made an OG Xbox slim controller with Bluetooth I’d be rocking that, tho. Something something duality of man.

Does the Switch Pro Controller drift like it's JoyCon sibling? If not I might consider picking one up.

Four years of regular use and I haven't had any issues. YMMV ofc, all first party joysticks are prone to breaking down eventually, but mine has been very reliable.

Seconded on the Switch Pro controller. Bought it for Smash but I have ended up using it the majority of ownership for Steam games. Mine had a bit of a weird time trying to connect to my PC, but once I sorted it out, it was fine. Had it since mid-2019 and I've noticed no issues in terms of hardware defects. I've taken it travelling as well; it's been across the Pacific and back, as well as local/interstate travel.

the switch pro controller d-pad is pretty terrible, sadly. feels super mushy and will think you're doing diagonal inputs when you're not way too often. it's maybe acceptable for when the d-pad is just doing shortcuts in a 3D game, but I absolutely can't recommend playing any 2D game on it

trying to play Donkey Kong Country with it was what finally got me to buy one of those SNES-style 8bitdo controllers and that's been pretty solid for me so far. wish it didn't have L2 and R2 buttons though, they feel awkward crammed on there

apparently mine just started after like seven years. I bought it about a month after the launch of the switch, and it lasted until about a month ago. My brother is still using it though, so it's not a game ruining issue quite yet, but it'll get there I'm sure.
