haven't played any monhun games until wilds came out and i bought it day one and i'm literally infatuated with the game right now...

i was expecting a bit because capcom is my favorite publisher/developer and i love most of their franchises, but i've never played monster hunter other than the 10 minutes i spent on rise, but i'm like completely blown out the water. the game is really beautiful and fighting monsters feels so much fun!

still haven't figured out which weapon to really use yet, been testing out longsword and gunlance a lot and it's been a whole lot of fun just slashing around or blowing up monsters. probably gonna try hunting horn and switch axe next because both look incredibly fun :headbang:

started monhun with 4 so i'm not like a big time oldhead but i've got a fair amount of time under my belt. i think Wilds is great, not my fav (which is probably Rise/Sunbreak) but 50 hours later I've "finished" high rank and enjoyed most of it. my few issues are just how handhold-y Low Rank is and how very, very easy it is. the story itself isn't bad but the forced walk n talk AAA video game shit will always bug me. the voicework (in JP at least) is very good and the cutscenes are cool but getting told "hey don't go over there right now we're talking" is maybe the LAST thing i want in monhun.

difficulty's a bit more subjective and I definitely have a lot of legacy skill. plus, my favourite game is also quite easy with how much mobility wirebugs give you and how strong their abilities are so it's not really a harsh criticism, but in 50 hours I carted a single time to Rey Dau, and only because I ran out of switch axe meter right in front of his face while he was charging up his railgun. i think a lot of this is because of just HOW GOOD all of the weapons are now. i think they're probably the strongest they have ever been. so it's easy but it also just feels good as hell to wail on something.

i switch between switch axe, SNS, hammer, lance, dual blades and greatsword. all of them feel incredibly strong but dual blades and SNS especially. i think SNS might be the single best weapon rn because it just does EVERYTHING. and not in a "master of none" kinda way, it actually just excels at every single thing. i actually stopped taking it for a bit so i could actually see what some fights should be like.

again though I do think it's great and am glad it's done so well. i'm at HR71 and my Hunter ID's CK6V37NN. if anyone who plays needs help with something or just wants to grind a bit faster i'm usually down, since rn all I really have to do is grind out sets and weapons i think look cool until the title updates add more monsters.

Wilds is fun so far. As a hammer main, I think I prefer World's hammer combo flow but eh. Still fun to me. Hopefully you can find your own personal favorite weapon, cause nothing feels better than fully mastering the moveset you jive with the most. Makes you feel amazing.

I'm with Scott on the Low Rank being pretty easy. I couldn't really pinpoint the monsters that were clearly the ones that are supposed to be the wall for new players like I could with World, the first Rey Dau encounter was the only one I could see. Though I don't mind the earlier bits of the game being easy, if it helps get more people into the series then I'm happy with it. They'll eventually add harder monsters like Deviljho, Rajang, and Alatreon; then we will all be in for it.

Guardian Fatalis when?

yeah i wanna reiterate that i'm not saying it's easy as like a big condemnation or anything. even in high rank it's kinda breezy but it's a lot of fun either way. plus, i was on a hunt with some randos and watched a guy triple cart to Rathalos so really it's not all that different from usual.

i think the initial monster roster is pretty solid and I like all of the new additions. of course i'd like there to be more but if I was fixing REAL bad to fight something in particular I can always fire up GenU. plus there'll be title updates etc
gore magala showing back up definitely got a FUCK yes outta me though. love my big edgelord and his set/weapons are rightfully good as hell

i've been having fun so far after I've played a little bit, gonna go into overdrive these next 10 days before the new bleach game comes out. i don't think the difficulty has been anything too bad for me either, but it did definitely do a good job at sucking me into the game.

i think i'm a full gunlancehead unfortunately, and after scott talked about sword and shield I tried it out and had a literal blast. i like "jack of all trades" types of weapons so sword and shield might be my second main if i don't find anything else!! super fun to shield bash the monsters head until it falls over and then spam perfect rush. gunlance has really been itching me well though especially after learning how to actually fight and not just spamming buttons.

just stopped after the rey dau encounter but gonna play more soon!
