What are you listening to right now?

I've had In Flames pop up on my YouTube recommended every now and then (my YouTube music recommendations are 🔥) and I still haven't listened to any of their albums yet for some reason. Probably should check them out
The Halo Effect is like entirely comprised of dudes who used to be in In Flames at one point or another. first 4 IF records are essential imo and then after that it's a bit spotty (at least in terms of full albums). if you were picking one I'd say check out The Jester Race as its generally their best regarded, but my personal favourite is Colony. really just listen to whichever of those ones pops out at you though, there's kind of no wrong answer

Went and saw Buckethead live in New Orleans tonight and he brought on a guitarist named COB and they had a little back and forth. It was fun, she had great energy--on top of being phenomenal on guitar. If Buckethead swaps to bass and lets you take guitar you know that person is good. Anyway I'm listening to their collab album.

Over the past couple days I finally listened through two albums that I've been wanting to listen to for a while but never got around to it. I haven't been able to stop thinking about them since. I might do full reviews of these sometime, I just have too many thoughts.

mewithoutyou - Brother, Sister

Absolutely phenomenal post-hardcore album with some folk elements. I've been listening to In a Sweater Poorly Knit for years but hadn't given the rest of the album the time it deserves. The whole album is incredible, and I might need to redo my Topster lmao.

So much of mewithoutyou's work gives off this sort of Industrial Revolution Americana vibe to me. trains and farms, very early automobiles, lighthouses and fancy hats. if anyone has any recommendations of other albums that give this vibe please let me know :)

Vektroid - 777 PIG DANGER

I have zero clue how to describe this album.

it's like if ENA was a survival horror game and the soundtrack was inspired by harsh noise and made by randomly switching channels on the radio. Barotrauma at Data Ocean Primordia is probably the most accessible song on the album, but they're all pretty interesting. it gives mundane tasks like getting your mail a spicy and exciting upgrade!

Even if you have zero interest in listening to the album, I'd give the short story in the bandcamp description a read.

When I get a chance I want to listen through cRASH 1 and cRASH 2: Mac +/-, they seem like the middle step in the evolution of this sound (with Sick and Panic by Macintosh Plus being the first in the chain). wild that these projects are related at all to the seminal Vaporwave album Floral Shoppe, but here we are lol.

first time i checked out mwY i was in high school and saw brother, sister sitting at a 4.2/5 average on sputnikmusic and went "oh damn okay". checked it out and immediately was turned off by the vocals and never listened to it again for years. when I finally went back they became one of my favourite bands of all time

it's definitely a polarizing band thats for sure. I don't remember disliking mwy's vocals the first time I heard them, but I had gone through a similar thing of hating the vocals of Tyler Joseph on early Twenty One Pilots stuff and coming around to it a while later. honestly there's a lot of similarities between Aaron Weiss' vocal style and early Tyler Joseph that I hadn't noticed before now.

I first heard of mwy in high school, right around the time [Untitled] came out, when the Julia and Another Head for Hydra videos had just come out and I absolutely hated how dark those two tracks were. I ended up gelling pretty well with January 1979, Fox's Dream of the Log Flume, but never really wanted to dig into their stuff just because of how dark a few of the tracks on [Untitled] were.

Fast forward to a couple months ago, and Julia has really become a go-to track for me whenever I need something heavy and dark, funny how things change. I need to finish listening through the rest of their discography (and re-listen to Ten Stories)

I will take this opportunity to share what I think might be the greatest concert recording of all time. Aaron Weiss shows up about four and a half minutes in, I cannot count how many times I've watched this. Love Norma. Love mwY.

An oddball pick for what I've actually been listening to today- the OST to Rocketbird: Hardboiled Chicken. It's pretty much just a New World Revolution album, I haven't listened to it in years but it's held up really well.
