Over the past couple days I finally listened through two albums that I've been wanting to listen to for a while but never got around to it. I haven't been able to stop thinking about them since. I might do full reviews of these sometime, I just have too many thoughts.
mewithoutyou - Brother, Sister
Absolutely phenomenal post-hardcore album with some folk elements. I've been listening to
In a Sweater Poorly Knit for years but hadn't given the rest of the album the time it deserves. The whole album is incredible, and I might need to redo my Topster lmao.
So much of mewithoutyou's work gives off this sort of Industrial Revolution Americana vibe to me. trains and farms, very early automobiles, lighthouses and fancy hats. if anyone has any recommendations of other albums that give this vibe please let me know :)
Vektroid - 777 PIG DANGER
I have zero clue how to describe this album.
it's like if
EN
A was a survival horror game and the soundtrack was inspired by harsh noise and made by randomly switching channels on the radio.
Barotrauma at Data Ocean Primordia is probably the most accessible song on the album, but they're all pretty interesting. it gives mundane tasks like getting your mail a spicy and exciting upgrade!
Even if you have zero interest in listening to the album, I'd give the short story in the bandcamp description a read.
When I get a chance I want to listen through
cRASH 1 and
cRASH 2: Mac +/-, they seem like the middle step in the evolution of this sound (with
Sick and Panic by Macintosh Plus being the first in the chain). wild that these projects are related at all to the seminal
Vaporwave album Floral Shoppe, but here we are lol.
