How’s today going?

Been helpin’ out my all-but-adoptive parents and today’s been good. About to be a total downpour here in a few.
 
I’m im NYC, as foretold in the prophecy. I’m tired but it’s pretty cool! Here are some
Impressions:
-The subway trains here are very verbose. You arrive at a stop and the train announces the stop name before telling you every possible transfer there and where it is, the location of the elevator, and some random warning. It’s so much wordier than the Chicago ones. But I kind of dig it.

-New Yorkers are so pretentious about their pizza and it’s kind of annoying but upon trying it here today… yeah that’s pretty damn good pizza.

-I walked a lot. You can walk a lot here.

-Work, the main thing I’m here for, is “definitely work” - I wish I had some more time to actually explore and be a tourist but it’s pretty fun to get to walk around at night anyways.

Still perpetually exhausted but I forced myself outta the house for Actual Fun. Went to trivia with friends and revived my incredibly-long-dead team (which I haven't led in... at least a year and a half). It was a good time, I tried to stay out after that but hit a point where I realized I was just gonna pass out if I didn't go home asap. I've got a really low battery lately and p. much only sleep if I collapse from either exhaustion or intoxication. Can't say it's been great but today has been good in spite of that. Just gotta keep on truckin'.
 
Was trying to figure out why the heck I couldn't sleep tonight (it's 1:22AM my time).

Turns out the flavoring I put into my carbonated water tonight was heavily caffeinated. I made some carbonated water and put some flavoring in it for a nice evening drink, and accidentally ingested like 200-300mg of caffeine... like three hours ago. normally I cut off caffeine around 2PM so I can sleep, but not tonight

Looks like I'll be booting up some games to kill the next couple hours and sleeping in super far tomorrow. thankfully it's sunday
 
Yesterday a friend visited from out of town. We got food and went to the park and the zoo. It was pretty fun.

Though when I slept I ended up waking up at 4am for no reason and struggled to get back to sleep. I feel a bit tired and off today, and I've done very little. That's probably ok though. Might order some food as a treat. Yesterday was a good day so that's cool
 
Spent most of last week at Summer GamesDoneQuick. Phenomenal week, total blast, inspired to pick up a speed game, we'll see how that goes.

Brought my 3DS along to streetpass some folks and actually got a lot. Enjoy this 3DS selfie of masked Kepler (the 3DS camera is both awesome and trash, i love it). I didn't get con flu, pretty happy about that!!

Dropping off my heart monitor in the morning. I think it's a great example of how exhausted I've been lately that I've had a nice & shiny new printer sitting in my living room for the last week but haven't set it up until... well, a few minutes from now. Excited to move on with my life soon, hopefully.
 
we have been incredibly dizzy feeling all day. we suspect it's pertinent to anemia somehow, but it's unusual for it to be bad enough that we're still feeling it while sitting down and going about the day as normal. seems daily iron supplements over the past month-ish haven't been doing terribly much to help. good news is that we're gonna have blood work done later in the month to see if it is anemia. if not, then uh. god help us i guess
 
just finished moving into a new place this weekend. Well, finished is a strong word but it feels reasonably comfortable now. I still need to make a 10h round-trip drive to pick up the last few things that didn't make it into the Uhaul (including half my plates and clothes?).

Quit my Controls Engineer job about two months ago now, it just wasn't working out. Ended up getting an offer to go to grad school and get paid to do it, so that's where we're at now. Getting paid like a third of what I was paid, but I can live with my brother and hopefully work less overall. Gonna be teaching a low-level mechanical engineering course as a teaching assistant, so we'll see how that works out.

Gonna be trying to make this next season of life much more chill. During my undergraduate degree and the subsequent six months working a "real" job, I was constantly overextending myself. Trying to make YouTube work and bring that back, working on personal projects constantly, promising to help with things that realistically didn't need my help anyways, constantly working entirely too much on impossible timelines... I'm going to make a conscious effort to withdraw from that.
 
Yesterday was go go go constantly and I felt so alive that my head was hurting from taking it all in. So far, today looks like it will be the opposite of that. Went back to sleep after some really bad nightmares hit and now I just get my day going from here, I guess.
 
Today was a really nice day.

Went and made some green bean casserole for some friends that just had a kid, truthfully outdid myself on this one. The secret is that you save your bacon grease & roll the green beans around in it before mixing in any other ingredients.

Now it's a nice and cozy evening, just the right amount of chilly... I have to wake up super early in the AM but I really want to just stay up late with a nice hot drink and a cozy movie.
 
started my path to recovery from chronic illness last fall after reaching my lowest in 2023-2024. the era of AI slop is both a demoralizing time to finish school in your mid-20s and a nearly impossible time to navigate the job market as someone who has been sick and on disability for several years, and balancing all of that with poor personal health is too much too quickly

progress feels good but never try to fix everything at once lol
 
Kinda rough as of late but I'm hanging in there. Sick with some mystery bug, possibly covid (doesn't appear on PCR until you've had symptoms for five days, apparently!) but I could be worse. Drugs I'm on are to prevent my regular bouts of bronchitis and seem to be quite effective but I can't drive while under their influence since I'm falling asleep constantly. Could be worse, I suppose.
 
the basement bathroom floor is covered in sewage from our family's repeated botched attempts at trying to rinse out a drain clog. we're going to bed with the stench of a septic tank seeping into our room. we really need to be abducted
